River is a gray Quarab gelding who displays the refined qualities of the Arabian and many of the conformation attributes of the Quarter Horse. This gelding spent many years as the only horse in his pasture, but since coming to the Sanctuary, has become friendly and more socialized around other horses.

He is currently learning Parelli Natural Horsemanship and is good at the seven games. River wears corrective shoes that help prevent periodic lameness episodes. As such, he is suitable for light riding, only.
